Canvey Island enter the BBC Essex Senior Cup on Tuesday evening, as they host Essex Senior League side White Ensign in the 3rd Round at the Moviestarr Stadium.

Ensign have enjoyed a remarkable rise in the last few seasons, transitioning from a stalwart but successful Saturday Olympian side into a fully fledged senior side, with it's first team competing in the Essex Senior League.

Under the stewardship of former Player/Manager Brett Munyard, they took their first steps into the NLS system in 2018, with the side joining the newly formed Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties South - the same league our tenants Benfleet play their trade in. They adapted to life in the division quickly, and their impressive form earned them promotion to the Essex Senior League in 2021, after an FA reshuffle post-covid.

Aaron Bloxham has since steadied the ship after Munyard's departure to Brightlingsea Regent, though maintains a competitive side filled with up and coming talent, as well as experienced players who've honed their skills at a higher level.

They reached this stage of the competition by beating Newbury Forest in the 2nd Round, and come into this game on the back of a 3-1 home win against Coggeshall Town in the Essex Senior League on Saturday.

Tuesday nights match will also mark the first competitive meeting of the two clubs - a staticians gold standard!

The Gulls

Canvey meanwhile, come into this match on the back of a 1-1 draw in the Isthmian League Premier against Cheshunt.

It was their first home game since late September, and they were made to work for their point on a challenging surface against a recently relegated Ambers. Conor Hubble got Canvey's goal from the penalty spot, with both sides missing chances to win the game late on.

Canvey will be looking to progress in the Senior Cup, with the team reaching the Quarter Final stage last season - and this being the Gulls last crack at Cup glory following FA Cup and FA Trophy exits.
