Canvey Island recorded a comfortable 5-1 win at home against Enfield Town to secure their place in the next Qualifying Round of the Emirates FA Cup.
On an afternoon that looked tough on paper, the Gulls were clinical in front of goal, with Evans Kouassi notching a hatrick, Danny Parish and Jamie Salmon also chipping with goals of their own.
It took 20 minutes for Canvey to take the lead. Kouassi picked up a ball from a throw in and cut into the midfield. Some nice interplay between Hubble and Parish saw the ball make it's way back to Kouassi, allowing him to finish across goal from the left hand side to give the Gulls their opener.
Parish added a goal to his assist three minutes later when he latched onto a through ball, poking the
ball past goalkeeper Nathan McDonald before slotting into an empty net.
Just before half time, Conor Hubble’s free kick from the left was headed on by Michael Finneran and
touched home by Jamie Salmon to make it 3-0.
Any hopes of a second half comeback for the visitors were dashed five minutes after the restart. A superb cross
from Hubble on the right was headed goalwards by Kouassi, but McDonald was able to make the
save. However, Kouassi reacted quickly to convert the loose ball from close range.
Hubble was involved once again on 66 minutes when his ball across the face of goal found Danny
Parish at the back post. His shot was blocked by Scott Shulton, but Kouassi was on hand to complete
his hattrick from the rebound.
Enfield Town did manage to grab a consolation on 69 minutes through Jake Cass, but the forward
injured himself in the process and meant the visitors played the last 20 minutes with ten men.
Canvey now wait on Monday's draw to see who they face next in the Cup. They return to league action next weekend when Kingstonian are the visitors to the Moviestarr Stadium.
