Canvey Island enter the 22/23 Emirates FA Cup on Saturday (03/09), as they face a challenging opponent in fellow league side Enfield Town.
The Towners come into the game on the back of tough August, with just one win in their first five games of the season. Their last outing on Bank Holiday Monday saw them go down 2-1 at local rivals Potters Bar Town.
Meanwhile, the Gulls themselves come into this game following a 1-1 draw away at Bowers & Pitsea on Monday afternoon.
This will be our 16th meeting in all competitions with Enfield Town, our last encounter coming in a Velocity Trophy tie back in 2018, the visitors winning 1-0.
In terms of prior FA Cup form, our opponents have never made the proper rounds, their best run seeing them reach the Fourth Qualifying Round in 15/16 season. Last year saw them reach the Third Qualifying Round, where they suffered a narrow defeat to Chelmsford City.
The Gulls meanwhile, have gone as far as the Third Round Proper, a famous meeting with Burnely at Turf Moor in 2002 being their prize.
In more recent memory, the Gulls reached the Second Round Proper in 2020, being drawn against National League side Boreham Wood at Park Lane in a match unfortunately played behind closed doors due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but watched by many around the nation live on BT Sport.
Many of the Canvey squad from that game will be looking to replicate their famous run again this season. The Island is always up for the cup, so come out and back our boys on what we hope is the start of another great cup adventure!
