Canvey Island made it 4 wins in 5 league games with an emphatic 6-2 over Hulllbridge at Lower Road.
On a cold day, Gulls were good value for their victory, dominating from start to finish on a wet, bobbly pitch.
Canvey took the lead after just 55 seconds. Conor Hubble's left wing cross was perfect for Evans Kouassi who leapt well to send a towering header past Lewis Greene.
Hullbridge though to their credit responded superbly and former Canvey striker Tony Stokes grabbed an equaliser on 6 minutes after a break down the right saw the ball played infield to Stokes who curled a shot past Bobby Mason and into the far corner of the net.
Another former Canvey player Albert Levett was denied by a good save by Mason after a free kick was partially cleared on 17 minutes.
A few minutes later, Matt Price had a good chance to give Canvey the lead but his attempted lob from Hubble's through ball was over the crossbar.
On the half hour mark, Canvey regained the lead. Mason's goal kick was flicked on by Elliott Ronto and Kouassi took advantage of a miscued clearance by a defender to run on and finish well past Greene.
Price had a goal disallowed for offside before Canvey twice could have extended their lead before half time.
First Greene made a magnificent reaction save to keep out Price's powerful volley from 20 yards and then on the stoke of half time, Jamie Salmon's header crashed off of the crossbar after getting on the end of Harrison Chatting's corner at the far post.
In the second half, Canvey made a slow start to the half and Hullbridge nearly equalised a minute into the half as a right wing cross caught an awkward bounce and struck Mason in the face. The keeper recovered well to stop Joe Gregory from getting a shot away.
On 57 minutes a swift counter attack saw Emmanuel Folarin slip and allow Kouassi to break down the right. He squared for Price but his close range effort was saved well by Greene.
A minute later, Canvey were 3-1 up. Kouassi swung in a ball from the left that found Ronto at the far post and he took his time to take the ball down and fire in a volley that took a deflection off of a defender and nestle into the bottom corner.
On 70 minutes it was 4-1 when Price tucked away Ronto's right wing cross at the near post.
Hullbridge gave themselves a glimmer of hope on 72 minutes when Gregory fired home a low shot past Mason from the edge of the penalty area and five minutes later did have the ball in the net after a dangerous corner from Kieran Bailey but the referee blew for a foul on Mason.
Canvey sealed the 3 points with 10 minutes to go. From a right wing corner, Price's volley at the far post across goal crashed off of the inside of the post and went across the face of goal falling to substitute Callum Fitzer to force the ball over the line to score against his former club.
The scoring was complete in injury time when Price was fouled in the penalty area and he stepped up to fire the resulting penalty past Greene and into the bottom corner of the net.
The result keeps Canvey in third place in the league before a tough encounter at AFC Sudbury on Tuesday night.
