On Saturday 23rd October, we will make the trip to Suffolk as we take on Bury Town in the Isthmian North Division, kick-off 3pm.
It’s been an eventful few days for the Gulls, as manager Mark Bentley recently left to join Southend United’s management team.
Mark has done a tremendous job for us. A particular highlight was last season, when he guided Canvey all the way to the Emirates FA Cup 2nd Round Proper, where we were on live television on two occasions.
Bentley leaves us in poll position in the Isthmian North. Everyone at Canvey Island Football Club would like to thank Mark for all of his hard work during his time here, and we wish him the best of luck in his new role at Southend United.
Brad Wellman will manage the team, as the club see no reason to change the coaching staff that have been so successful so far this season.
Chris Smith asked Brad Wellman how he was feeling ahead of Saturday’s match, Brad said: “I have mixed emotions with the news breaking last night regarding Mark. We’ve had a great training session tonight. We have a togetherness as a group that is as good as I’ve seen, and that’s running through the club. Bury is always a tough place to go, but we are full of confidence and hopefully we can continue the great form that we’ve been in."
Brad also gave his comments on the Canvey fans so far this season: “We need you boys in full voice again, you’ve been ledge for us & the boys thrive off you! Raise the roof again."
We would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone associated with the Gulls a safe and enjoyable trip to and from Bury Town. Let’s get right behind the boys from the off! Yellow Army!
