Canvey Island continued their recent resurgence with an impressive 2-1 victory over Hashtag United at the Steves' Taxis Stadium in this Isthmian Division One North fixture.
Gulls have won 4 of their last 6 games after a poor start to the season and seem to be hitting some form under Kevin Horlock.
After beating Cambridge City on Saturday, Canvey picked up where they left off with an impressive performance over a Hashtag side who have made a good start to the season.
Canvey made a positive start with Alfie Cutbush firing a shot that was deflected just wide on 17 minutes.
A few moments later, Gulls opened the scoring when following a goalmouth scramble, Josh Curry forced the ball into the net from close range to score his first goal in Canvey colours.
It got even better for Gulls on 30 minutes when from a crossfield pass, Calum Newson headed the ball down to Sam Bantick who was making his debut after re-signing from Witham.
The forward took a touch and seeing the goalkeeper Joe Whitney off of his line lobbed a superb effort over him and into the net.
In the second half, Hashtag enjoyed more possession and threatened the Canvey goal on several occasions in the opening 15 minutes of the half.
Gulls though looked well organised with David Hughes only being called upon once to make a save from an angled drive.
On 73 minutes good work by Charlie Panton saw his pass find Lestar Ward down the left. The young winger broke into the six yard box but Whitney saved at his feet.
Hashtag saw a free kick from the edge of the crossbar deflected over before Harrison Day made the last few moments a bit more nervy for Canvey by grabbing a consolation in injury time.
Gulls though held out for the remaining few minutes to secure an excellent three points.
