Canvey Island suffered a fright on Halloween after a 5-2 defeat to Walthamstow.
Gulls were sloppy in defence and poor starts in both halves were to cost them dear.
After a positive run of results which saw them pick up 4 wins in 6 games, Canvey showed their inconsistent side once again.
Benas Vaiveda gave Walthamstow the lead on 6 minutes after David Hughes came out to collect a loose ball but failed to hold it with the player firing home into the empty net.
Gulls went further behind on 16 minutes when Vaiveda was fouled in the penalty area and James Collins stepped up to fire the resulting penalty home.
At 2-0 down, the game seemed to be slipping away from the Gulls but two quick goals got them back into the game.
On 30 minutes a corner from Conor Hubble saw a scramble in the penalty area and Calum Newson tapped home the rebound after Luke Mewitt failed to hold the initial shot.
Four minutes later it was 2-2. Sam Bantick saw a shot on the turn come back off of the post and George Okoye tapped home the lose bal.
Into the second half and after a positive start to the half Canvey found themselves behind.
Tristan Goodridge picked up the ball 25 yards out and after a jinking run, he fired a superb shot past Hughes.
On 58 minutes, Jordan Trickett made it 4-2 latching on to a cross from Ozzie Adeniji.
A 5th came soon after when Elijah Grant lobbed Hughes after a determined run.
Hubble forced Mewitt into a close range save as Gulls attempted to find a way back into the game and Josh Curry hooked an effort wide but it ended up being a disappointing day for Canvey.
