Canvey Island came away with a point from a hard fought 1-1 draw with Brightlingsea Regent at North Road.
Canvey dominated long spells of the game but were pegged back by a hardworking Brightlingsea side.
Brightlingsea made a bright start with Luca Terminiello thundering a strike from 25 yards off of the crossbar on 6 minutes.
Gulls responded moments later with Lestar Ward breaking down the left wing but seeing his effort touched on to the crossbar by Charlie Turner.
The game swung in Gulls' favour when George Forrest was sent off for a reckless late tackle on Ward on 29 minutes.
Alfie Cutbush slammed a low shot just wide from 25 yards as Canvey looked to impose themselves on the game.
Into the second half and Ross Wall skewed a volley wide at the far post before forcing Turner into a good save after finding space in the penalty area.
Canvey eventually made the breakthrough that they deserved on 67 minutes when Jack Cawley sent a towering header into the net from Conor Hubble's right wing corner to give Gulls the lead.
The goal spurred Regent into a good spell of pressure that saw them come close on a couple of occasions.
Their pressure eventually told on 90 minutes when Terminiello fired home the rebound after a ferocious volley from range crashed off of the crossbar.
It was Regent despite having ten men who finished strongly but Gulls held out for a point that they'll probably feel could easily have been 3 points.
