Canvey Island are back on the road on Saturday afternoon as they make the short journey to Grays Athletic for another Isthmian League North Division fixture.
The Gulls will be looking to put Tuesday night’s disappointing 6-0 defeat away at Hullbridge Sports in the Essex Senior Cup behind them and return to league action with a positive result.
It was a difficult evening for Canvey in the cup, and the side will be keen to respond as they look to get their league campaign back on track.
There is already some recent history between the two sides this season, with Canvey beating Grays 4-1 at the Steve Taxis Stadium in the FA Cup back in August. The Gulls will be hoping for another positive result, although a trip to Grays presents a different challenge.
The hosts have also endured a difficult run of results, losing their last four league matches, including a 2-1 defeat away at Little Oakley last weekend. Grays will be equally keen to turn things around on home soil.
With Canvey sitting 18th and Grays 19th in the table, there is little to separate the sides, making Saturday’s meeting an important one for both clubs as they look to move away from the lower end of the division.
For the Gulls, the priority will be to show a response, put in a strong performance and come away from Grays with something to show for their efforts. The two sides will meet again later in the season, but for now the focus is firmly on Saturday’s encounter.
As always, we ask supporters to get behind the Gulls and show respect to everyone at the ground as we look to make it a positive afternoon for the club.
