Gulls make the trip to Felixstowe

Canvey Island are back on the road this Saturday as they make the journey to Suffolk to face Felixstowe & Walton United in the Isthmian League North Division.

It has been a busy few days for the Gulls, who return to league action after Tuesday night’s 2-1 home defeat to Newmarket Town. That result followed Saturday’s FA Trophy exit against Needham Market, meaning Canvey will be looking to put a difficult run of results behind them as they head to the coast.

Felixstowe, meanwhile, have put together an unbeaten run in recent weeks and currently sit ninth in the table. The Seasiders have drawn three of their last five league matches, including Tuesday night’s 3-3 draw away at Fakenham Town.

Before that, Felixstowe picked up an impressive 3-0 win at Mulbarton Wanderers, while they also recorded victories over Buckhurst Hill and Brightlingsea Regent earlier in September.

There is some recent history between these two sides, too. Canvey will certainly remember the 2022 Isthmian North play-off semi-final, when the Gulls came from behind to beat Felixstowe 2-1 and move on to the final. Evans Kouassi scored twice that afternoon, and he is once again part of the Canvey squad this season.

The sides also met in the FA Cup in September 2024, with Canvey coming out on top with a 2-0 victory at the Steve Taxis Stadium.

Saturday’s meeting will be a different challenge, though, with Felixstowe having made a strong start to their league campaign and Canvey looking to find a way to turn performances into points.

After three games in the space of a week, the Gulls will be hoping for a positive afternoon in Suffolk and a result to take back across the Thames.
