Canvey head to Tilbury for Tuesday night derby

Canvey Island are back on the road on Tuesday evening as they make the short trip to Tilbury for a local derby under the lights at the EMR Stadium.

The Gulls will be looking to bounce back from Saturday’s 1-0 home defeat to Chelmsford City, with the result meaning Canvey departed from this seasons FA Cup whilst a defeat to Wroxham last Tuesday left the Gills on four points from their opening five league games.

Tilbury will go into the game with confidence after a positive weekend. The Dockers recorded a 3-0 victory away at Little Oakley on Saturday, with Joe Elliott scoring twice from the penalty spot and Jonathan Nzengo also getting on the scoresheet.

That victory moved Tilbury onto eight points from their opening six matches, although the early-season table remains tightly packed.

Tuesday’s fixture will be another meeting between two clubs who know each other well, with the short journey between Canvey and Tilbury adding to the local feel of the occasion.

For Canvey, the aim will be to put Saturday’s result behind them and produce a positive performance on the road. There is plenty of football still to come this season, but another three points would provide a welcome boost as the Gulls look to build some momentum.

With another league fixture against Newmarket Town to come next Tuesday and Needham Market on Saturday in the FA Trophy, Canvey have the chance to make it an important week.

First up, though, is Tilbury.
