In the last away game of the season relegated Canvey Island gave a first League Start to Dominykas Bobrovskij. Dom had shown promise in his substitute appearances and so was given a starting spot for this match.
It only took 9 minutes for the home side to take the lead when Jasper Mather tucked it away from close range following a corner. Mather was then involved in the second goal just before half time when he rounded the keeper and hit the post but the referee thought that Canvey keeper Marsdon had caught the striker and awarded a penalty. Midfielder Alex stepped up and scored from the spot. Before half time Andrew Sesay hit the post from a tight angle for the Gulls after a run down the left and then from a free kick 25 yards out Sam Smart hit the woodwork for the Saints.
The game was effectively over in first half injury time when Lewis Page hit a low effort into the corner of the net from the edge of the box to make it 3-0 at half time.
Andrew Sesay had two further efforts in the second half but was denied by Sam Donkin in the St Albans goal. Jasper Mather added his second goal of the day in the 77th minute when he side footed a cross in for St Albans 4th of the day.
Gulls did get on the score sheet in the 89th minute Conor Hubble scored from close range from a corner.
Canvey Island finish what has been an awful season next Saturday when they host Ramsgate at the Steves Taxis Stadium.
