

On Non-League Day the Gulls travelled to The Dripping Pan to take on Lewes in an Isthmian Premier League clash. Canvey Island started the better with Duane Ofori-Acheampong forcing a save from Lewes keeper Louis Rogers on 13 minutes but 2 minutes later Duane opened the scoring from a Calum Newson cross. On 28th Minute Duane added a second from close range. On 35 minutes Lewes had a chance to get back in the game when they were awarded a penalty for handball. Danny Bassett stepped up to take the penalty which was well saved by Canvey keeper Freddie Norman. Canvey lost Ben Steward and Jack Paxman to injuries in the first half but went into the break with a 2-0 lead.
In the second half Lewes started to get on top and were rewarded with a goal from a dipping long range shot from Charlie Walker. Lewes piled on the pressure but the Gulls still had chances on the break. Canvey looked like they would hang on for the win but after a Lewes shot hit the bar Kpake nodded home in the 90th minute to snatch a point at the death.
Two games in 3 days next weekend starting with a visit from Dulwich Hamlet on Saturday.
