Canvey Island 's 3rd successive defeat leaves them 9 points from Safety after an injury time penalty from George Vorsters ruined their day at the Steves Taxis Stadium. In the first half Michael Finneran kept the gulls in the game with a fantastic last ditch block to deny Ben Pope from close range. As the half progressed Canvey got more on the front foot and their where chances but the Burgess Hill defence held firm.
In the second half the Gull had chances but again were poor in the final third. Scoring has been a problem all season and failure to take advantage when in good positions has cost us dear.
For the second Saturday running the Gulls were reduced to 10 men when Kenidi Dariri was sent off for bringing down Lawson when he was through on goal.
It looked like the Gulls would hold on for the draw but the heartbreak of the injury time penalty from the Hillians was another nail in the coffin for our chances of staying in the premier division.
Next Saturday is a must win match as we travel to Carshalton Athletic.
