Potters Bar Town secured their first home win of the season in a cagey bottom of the table affair that left Canvey still winless. For Potters Bar Adams though he was in after 23 minutes only for the linesman to flag for offside as he was about to try to lob George Barrett. Looking like it was going to be 0-0 at half time before the Gulls conceded an injury time when Adams turned the ball in from a scrappy corner and a defensive mix up.
The Scholars started the second half strongly with Reiss Weber forcing a smart save from George Barrett and Ronnie Henry headed onto the bar from the resulting corner. Another corner almost saw Potters Bar double their lead as debutant Essa Janneh had time and space in the box but his header missed the target.
Josh Hutchinson then had the ball in the net oly to be judged offside. Canvey Island rang the changes and started to get back into the game. Substitute Calum Newson charged through looking for an equalizer but was blocked by Janneh. Then Ronnie Henry made a vital block on the line to deny another Canvey Chance.
Potters Bar had one more chance when a Leigh Rose header was brilliantly saved.
Canvey pushed for an equalizer in the closing minutes But the Scholars held on to take the point.
Seems like a lifetime ago but the Gulls finally have a home match at home to table toppers Brentwood Town on Tuesday night. We will look for some payback after being robbed of a draw in the away fixture a few weeks earlier.
