Canvey Island had an afternoon to forget going down to a 4-1 defeat to Welling United at Park View Road.
After a close first half, Gulls were second best in the second half making it just one point from 8 matches.
An open start to the game saw Finley Dorrell denied by a last ditch tackle and John Ufuah had an effort for Welling that was deflected straight into Lewis Greene's hands.
On 22 minutes, Greg Cundle saw a knockdown fall to him and his half volley was held by Greene before Ufuah hooked an effort high and wide.
Charlie Stimson responded for Gulls curling an effort just over the crossbar from 20 yards on 36 minutes.
Greene had to make a fine reaction save from a header tipping away Cundle's effort after a good left wing cross from Ufuah on 38 minutes.
Just before half time Zac Hambury forced Greene into a good save at his near post as Welling finished the half strongly.
Hambury gave Welling the lead 5 minutes into the second half racing on to a through ball to dink the ball over Greene.
Welling dominated after this and came close to scoring on several occasions.
Eventually they scored their second on 66 minutes when Greene came racing from his goal to clear a loose ball but was tackled with the ball being worked to Cundle who scored into an empty net.
Worse was to follow on 69 minutes when Logan Dobbs headed home via the add of a deflection from a corner.
On 73 minutes it was 4-0. Hambury was tripped in the penalty area and Jack Paxman stepped up to fire home confidently.
Canvey looked a beaten side and Welling may well have extended their lead but for better finishing.
It was Canvey who had the final word in the match scoring a consolation deep into injury time.
Louie Remi's free kick was spilled by Freddie Norman straight into the path of Max Fiddes who tapped the loose ball home from close range.
It was a mere consolation as Welling picked up a comfortable 3 points.
