Canvey Island went down to their 6th defeat in 7 league matches after a cruel stoppage time 1-0 defeat to Brentwood Town at the Brentwood Centre.
Brentwood won the game with a 98th minute strike to leave the Gulls firmly rooted to the bottom of the league.
Despite the defeat there were some positives with Gulls battling well in the second half without creating much in front of goal.
Canvey made a positive opening and within the first minute of the game, Shaun Mavididi went down in the penalty area but the referee waved away any appeals for a penalty.
The dangerous Daniel Ogunleye had a sight of goal on 4 minutes for Brentwood but fired wide.
After that Brentwood edged the game but were unable to seriously trouble Lewis Greene in the Canvey goal.
They had a number of efforts wide but despite some good approach play, they failed to create a clear cut chance.
In the second half, Brentwood dominated possession whilst Gulls at times threatened on the break.
Brentwood got into some good positions but were wasteful in front of their goal with their shooting often shooting high and wide.
Brentwood looked particularly dangerous on the wings but Canvey looked like they had kept them at bay with Elliott Johnson in particular having a strong game.
Going into the 98th minute, Brentwood won it when a left wing corner caused a scramble in the box that Romel Royal scrambled home.
It was a disappointing end to the game for Gulls who look to bounce back when they face Welling United a week on Saturday.
