Canvey Island suffered a second consecutive defeat losing 4-1 against Cheshunt at the Steve’s Taxi’s Stadium.
The Hertfordshire side scored four goals on Saturday in a 4-2 opening day win over Welling United and repeated the trick against the Gulls.
Gulls were behind within the first 10 minutes when Raul Da Silva was able to head home a corner past Lewis Greene.
Worse was to follow on 19 minutes when a break down the right hand side of the penalty area saw the ball played back to Reon Smith-Kouassi who tapped home from close range.
Gulls did respond well to this set back reducing the arrears on 24 minutes when Mike Finneran sent a looping header past Preston Edwards and into the net.
The lively Tyler Forbes provided a half chance for Shaun Mavididi with an excellent right wing cross but he was just short of reaching the ball.
In the second half, Mavididi had the ball in the net but it was ruled out for offside before Cheshunt extended their lead on 54 minutes.
Connor Kurran Browne was at the far post to head home a cross.
Elliott Ronto had a decent chance for Canvey after breaking into the penalty area but his low effort was blocked by a defender.
Cheshunt sealed the win on 80 minutes with a superb long range effort from Stefan Vukoje that flew past Greene and into the top corner of the net.
Edwards was called into action during injury time when a corner dropped to Alex Moss in the penalty area but his volley was beaten away by the experienced goalkeeper.
Canvey are next in action on Saturday when they face Folkestone Invicta at home.
