Match Report: David Powell
Man of Match: Ollie Parsons
Canvey Island took a huge step towards sealing their Isthmian Premier League status with a hard fought victory over Hastings United at the Steve's Taxis Stadium.
The result almost certainly relegates beaten visitors Hastings, who find themselves eight points from safety with just three matches to go.
Canvey Island made a bright start with Bradley Sach forcing Louis Rogers into a scrambling save by his post on two minutes.
Hastings were just off target with a header from a right wing cross on 35 minutes.
Siya Ligenza curled a freekick over the crossbar from 25 yards just before half time as the opening half ended goalless.
Into the second period and Connor Hubble was narrowly of for the Gulls with a first time volley from the edge of the penalty area seven minutes after the break.
Hubble then smashed a fierce shot over the crossbar moments later as the home side continued to dominate.
Ollie Parsons had a sight of goal from Darren Foxley's right wing corner but could only guide the ball straight a United goalkeeper Rogers.
Sach saw a shot just clear the crossbar on 83 minutes but moments later substitute Finlay Dorrell raced on to a through ball to finish superbly past Rogers and give Canvey a crucial lead and ultimately an important three points.
The result leaves them just a couple of points from securing safety.
