Canvey Island suffered a 2nd successive league humbling on Saturday, as they were beaten 2-0 by Whitehawk in the Isthmian League Premier.
After the euphoria of Tuesday nights Essex Senior Cup Semi Final win, the Gulls once again let bad habits creep in, losing more ground in the fight to beat the drop.
They fell behind after just 8 minutes, as Harry Bridle was able to beat his marker on the edge of the box and loop a header over Bobby Mason to open the scoring.
Canvey responded with chances of their own, as Darren Foxley saw his shot scrambled away before Bradley Sach could turn the rebound, and Sach himself hit the woodwork midway through the half after getting a header in from an Emmanuel Adebiyi cross.
Chances of a comeback were made all the more harder just before half time however, as Emmanuel Mensah doubled the hosts lead after he was able to lob a shot over Mason.
The second half didn't prove much better for the Gulls on a heavy pitch, and as the fog rolled in, so did two more goals.
Not long after Foxley saw another chance go begging as he dragged a shot wide, the hosts grabbed their third as Bridle earned himself a brace after capitalising on an error at the back.
Then, in 54 minutes, the game was killed off as a contest as Bridle completed his hatrick. By that point, some in the traveling Yellow Army had seen enough.
Despite another chance falling the way of Chris Harris, who saw his shot saved, and a Whitehawk effort hitting the post, there were no further goals, meaning Canvey suffered their second successive 4-0 defeat in the space of a week - their blushes again spared by the side below them failing to win.
They'll need to dust themselves down and prepare for another big home game next Saturday, with Dover Athletic the visitors to the Steves Taxis Stadium.
