Canvey Island's relegation fears were heightened on Saturday afternoon, following a humiliating 4-0 defeat to Bogor Regis Town at the Steves Taxis Stadium.

In front of another low crowd of under 300, the Gulls looked more like the side rooted to the bottom of the league at the start of the day, second best to a more determined and resilient visitors throughout the game.

Despite starting the game on the front foot, it was Canvey went a goal down after just 13 minutes. A break down the left saw the ball played into Bailey Smith, who comfortably tapped home from close range to give his side the lead.

Things went from bad to worse for just 5 minute when Jasper Mather was also awarded the ease of heading home from a few yards out on 18 minutes to increase the lead.

Canvey meanwhile, were all at sea, constantly frustrated by the visitors defence, wasteful in possession, and toothless in front of goal, with the best they could muster a few shots off target.

They needed to start the far better than the first, and came out swinging after chances from Bradley Sach, who headed just wide, and Darren Foxley, who drilled a shot over from 20 yards, saw them knock on the door.

They did too little to actually trouble Ryan Hall in the visitors goal however, and after surving the first 15 minutes, the visitors hit Canvey's shaky, makeshift defence on the break, and they looked all too lacklustre and when the visitors added a 3rd on 65 minutes.

It was the pick of the visitors goals, when after an initial attack had been cleared, the ball fell to Doug Tuc, who hammered home a superb long range effort into the top corner of the net.

Chris Harris saw a close range header deflected just wide later in the half as the Gulls sought a consolation, before their miserable afternoon was compounded in injury time, as Jasper Mather added a 4th in injury time to give his side a big boost in their bid to escape the drop zone, while lassoing Canvey further towards it.

Results elsewhere somewhat spared the Gulls blushes, with the two sides directly above and below them failing to win, meaning they still have a 5 point cushion between themselves and the drop zone.

They'll need to put in a far improved performance in two important games approaching, with an Essex Senior Cup Semi Final against Chelmsford City on Tuesday, before another huge 'six pointer' away at Whitehawk next Saturday.
