On six minutes a cross from the left from Evans Kouassi found Matthew Price inside the area. The forward met the ball with a glancing header which went across goal and wide.
Up the other end four minutes later, a loose ball at left back from Jey Siva presented Correy Davidson with a chance. He pulled the trigger from 25 yards, although his effort was straight at Bobby Mason who saved.
Conor Hubble brought the ball down inside the area on 16 minutes after it had been crossed in from the right. He laid it off for O’Shane Stewart whose shot struck Matthew Price before going behind for a goal kick.
Canvey struck the woodwork on 34 minutes when Conor Hubble delivered an excellent free kick into the area from the left. The ball to the back post found the head of Miles Mitchell-Nelson, but his header struck the upright before being cleared.
The final chance of the first half came with five minutes remaining when Sudbury captain Joseph Grimwood rose unchallenged to head a corner over the bar.
With the scores deadlocked at half time, Bobby Mason was called into action eight minutes after the restart. A free kick to the back post from the right was headed goalwards by George Keys, but Mason produced an excellent save diving to his left to keep it out.
Canvey went from nearly scoring to falling behind in the 62nd minute.
Jamie Salmon switched play from right to left, with Harrison Chatting bringing the ball down into the path of O’Shane Stewart. The midfielder unleashed a shot from 20 yards which flew inches over the crossbar.
From the goal kick Marley Andrews was played through on goal for the visitors, finding the back of the net with a composed lobbed effort from the edge of the area.

Elliott Ronto was brought on with a minute to play in place of Jamie Salmon, with the referee indicating a minimum of five minutes to be played at the end of the second half.
In the second of these five minutes, a corner to the back post was struck towards goal by Miles Mitchell-Nelson. His low shot was blocked inside the six-yard box and fell to Ronto on the edge of the area, and he thumped the ball home to score a late equaliser.
After the final whistle an altercation between Canvey’s Matthew Price and Sudbury’s Luke Wilson saw both players shown straight red cards.
