Canvey Island are back on the road on Tuesday evening as they make the short trip to Hullbridge Sports for the third round of the Essex Senior Cup.

The Gulls will be looking to make progress in a competition that offers another opportunity for silverware, with a place in the next round up for grabs at the Eastbridge Recruitment Stadium.

Hullbridge compete in the Essex Senior League and have made a positive start to their league campaign. They recorded a 5-0 victory away at Sporting Bengal United earlier this month before drawing 1-1 with Harwich & Parkeston last Tuesday.

Tuesday’s tie will provide a different challenge for Canvey, with cup football often bringing its own demands. Hullbridge will be keen to make home advantage count and cause an upset against their higher-level opponents.

The two sides are certainly no strangers to each other, having met regularly in the Isthmian North in previous seasons. Their most recent meetings included a 6-2 Canvey victory at Hullbridge in January 2022, although much has changed at both clubs since then.

For the Gulls, the Essex Senior Cup offers a chance to put their league campaign to one side and focus on progressing in a knockout competition. With a busy run of fixtures continuing through October, the squad will be looking to make the most of the opportunity.

Canvey will need to be ready for a competitive evening against a Hullbridge side that will relish the chance to test themselves against opposition from a higher division.

With a place in the fourth round at stake, the Gulls will be hoping to get the job done and book their place in the next stage of the competition.
