The Gulls came from two goals behind at half time to win 3-2 against Cambridge City in the FA Trophy. After a disjointed first half in which Gulls were second best, Canvey were much better after the break and snatched the victory at the death despite being down to ten men. The first half was a poor game of few chances. Evans Kouassi thought he had opened the scoring for Canvey when he latched on to a flick on and broke through on 18 minutes but despite calmly finishing past the goalkeeper, the linesman ruled out the effort for offside. Kouassi then found himself free a few minutes later but fired straight at James Philp. City took the lead on 40 minutes. A drilled cross into the six yard box from the left caused confusion in the Canvey defence and an attempted clearance cannoned off Freddie Hockey and into the net. Moments later, it was 2-0. Jayden Randall saw his header from a corner drift past David Hughes and into the corner of the net.

Half-Time: Canvey Island 0-2 Cambridge City

City were two goals to the good at half time, but Canvey started the second half in positive fashion and reduced the arrears on 52 minutes, when Evans Kouassi's left wing cross was flicked on by Ross Wall into the path of Ernest Okoh at the far post who squeezed his shot past Philp. Kevin Horlock’s side then grabbed an equaliser on 71 minutes when from substitute Conor Hubble's left wing corner, Jack Cawley swept a low finish home from inside the six yard box. Both teams pushed for a winner in the last 15 minutes as the prospect of penalties to decide the game looked a big possibility. Ross Wall from a seemingly offside position saw his lob just clear the crossbar as the game approached the final 5 minutes. Canvey suffered a blow when in 7 minutes of injury time, Mike Finneran was sent off for a second yellow card. It was the Gulls though who nicked a winner deep into stoppage time. After Cawley's long throw caused a scramble in the penalty area, the ball was worked to George Scales who sent in a left wing cross that Mitchell May got his head to, to send a flicked header past Philp. Three was barely any time for City to respond and Canvey now await their opponents in the next round in Monday afternoon's draw.
