The Gulls were back in action last night as they took on Brett Munyard’s Aveley side, following Saturday narrow defeat to Brentwood Town after a second-half comeback fell short.

The visitors kicked-off the evening, but it was the Gulls who had the more promising start. Within six minutes Garry Kimble’s side had the lead after Ernest Okoh fired home an effort from the edge of the box, straight into the top corner. Canvey’s chances to double the lead kept occurring deep into the first-half, then the Gulls found themselves with a corner, however, the delivery was well defended by the Millers who were quick to take advantage of opportunity, where the Gulls were left out of position. The counter attack saw the equaliser after Max Booth lobbed David Hughes from distance to level the affair.

Minutes later, Aveley found themselves in-front after a a shot from the visitors deflected off of the Canvey number one, into the back of the net in the 37 minute. The Millers continued their pressure until the Referee called time on the first forty-five.

A Trialist for Garry Kimble’s side got the two sides underway for the second-half, however ten minutes into the action the visitors had a third. It was ex-Canvey man, Chris Harris who got his head on the end of Saunders’ delivery to power home a two goal advantage for Aveley.

With 20 minutes to go Aveley had their fourth of the evening, after the Millers worked the ball into the box, where it falls to an Aveley player at the back post, after a scramble in the box, where he stuck his strike into the back of the net to put the Gulls three down. After Aveley fired a fourth Canvey looked to find a comeback in the final 15, however nothing came of the chances and the Referee called the evening to a close.
