Canvey Island got their hands on the Essex Senior Cup for the first time since 2012 after a penalty shoot out victory over Hornchurch at Colchester United 's Community Stadium.
Bradley Sach's 91st minute strike gave Gulls a deserved equaliser to see the score end 1-1 in normal time.
In the resulting penalty shoot out Hornchurch missed two of their kicks with Canvey scoring 4 to see the Gulls win 4-2.
For long periods, Gulls were the better side against their National South opponents.
Despite being a goal down at half time it was Gulls who dominated possession and created the better chances.
On 22 minutes, Tom Stephen’s cross from the left found Chris Harris who flicked a header wide of the target.
Sach fired a long range effort wide of the goal before on 42 minutes some good build up play found Charlee Adams around 25 yards from goal and he crashed home a shot that took a slight deflection to give Hornchurch the lead.
In the second half, Canvey were the better side without creating a clear cut chance.
Hornchurch threatened with Angelo Balanta volleying a Sean Scannell cross wide and Tom Wraight having an effort straight at Bobby Mason.
Canvey looked more vibrant with the introduction of Tobi Tinubu and Finley Dorrell whose direct running and sheer determination started to ask questions of the Urchins’ defence.
It looked like Hornchurch had done enough to hold on but going into injury time a right wing corner from Connor Hubble dropped into the six yard box and after a scramble, Sach was able to send a looping shot beyond Mason Terry and into the net to spark wild celebrations amongst the Canvey players and supporters.
Hornchurch still had time to nearly snatch a win when a goal bound header was cleared off of the line.
So to a penalty shootout and when Ollie Muldoon scuffed his kick wide and Hubble confidently scored his it gave Canvey a massive advantage.
Urchins scored their next one with Tinubu firing home a superb penalty to keep Canvey in front.
When Darren McQueen missed for Hornchurch, Jeremy Santos -Hurtado stepped up to give Gulls a commanding 3-1 lead.
Hornchurch scored their next penalty but it was Sach who proved to be the hero again, firing home past Terry into the bottom corner of the net to seal a victory and their name on the Essex Senior Cup for the 5th time in their history.
