Canvey Island continued their run of pre-season matches with a 2-0 victory over FC Romania at Park Lane.

On a pleasant July day, Gulls were good value for their win.

Canvey took an early lead on 4 minutes, with Mike Finneran volleying home from close range after Tommy Cooney’s right wing corner.

FC Romania looked to test Canvey’s trialist keeper during the first half, with a series of shots met by an equal number of good stops from the man between the sticks.

In the second half, Bradley Sach tested the keeper early after his introduction with a stinging effort on 64 minutes.

On 78 minutes, Canvey’s trialist keeper made a fine smothering stop to deny the an FC Romania striker in a one on one.

Soon after, Canvey wrapped up the game. Elliott Ronto’s initial shot was blocked and fell to Sach, who swept a low shot beyond the keeper into the bottom corner.

Fc Romania did have a penalty appeal waved away by the referee in the closing stages of the game, which was one of the last moments of note before the referee blew for full time.

Next up for Canvey is a fixture with Isthmian League North side Tilbury on Tuesday night.
