Bentley Bolsters Squad

Manager Mark Bentley has signed three more players as we approach our opening Pitching In Isthmian League North match away to Stowmarket Town on Saturday, although one has unfortunately left the club.

Signing paperwork are midfielders Billy Knott and Callum Fitzer, along with full back Evangelos-Nikalaos Empochontsif.

Billy Knott, 28, will need little introduction to local football fans. His dad Steve and brother Sammy have both played for the Gulls, and Billy's career has seen him play for the likes of Sunderland, AFC Wimbledon, Bradford City, Gillingham and Lincoln City. He has represented England at U16, U17 and U20 levels and has featured throughout pre-season.

Another player to have completed a successful trial is young midfielder Callum Fitzer who joins from Hullbridge Sports. Having come through the youth system at Southend United, Callum went on to play for Southend Manor and has captained Essex U18's.

Evangelos-Nikalaos Empochontsif is a defender who spent time on trial with Championship side Middlesbrough in 2019. He has since had stints with clubs including Hullbridge Sports, Newbury Forest, Walthamstow and Woodford Town.

Departing Park Lane is midfielder Rob Lacey who has left to join Pitching In Isthmian Premier League side East Thurrock United. Rob made his debut in the 2016/17 season, going on to make 17 recorded appearances for the club and another 29 in the expunged 2019/20 campaign.

We would like to wish Rob the very best of luck at Rookery Hill and thank him for his efforts during his time with Canvey.
