The magic of the Emirates FA Cup begins for Garry Kimble’s side at the Orbital Fasteners Stadium on Saturday afternoon as the Gulls make the trip to Hertfordshire to take on Kings Langley in the Preliminary Round. With a place in the next stage at stake, the Gulls will be looking to build on their battling start to their Isthmian North campaign and take a step towards a cup run.
The Gulls will arrive in Kings Langley looking to turn a frustrating result into cup momentum after a 1-1 home draw with Brightlingsea Regent in the Isthmian North Division.
Canvey had to come from behind after Regent took the lead in a game of relatively few chances. The response eventually arrived through George Scales, who scored his first goal for the Gulls to bring the scores level and earn Canvey a valuable point. The defender's equaliser capped a determined comeback from Garry Kimble's side and provided plenty of encouragement heading into Saturday's FA Cup challenge.
Kings Langley come into the tie having drawn 1-1 with Everett Rovers in their most recent outing. The Hertfordshire side had already met Everett in the FA Cup earlier this month, with the Kings progressing from the Extra Preliminary Round to set up Saturday's meeting with the Yellows. The club's current campaign has seen them competing in the Spartan South Midlands Premier Division, and they will be hoping home advantage can help them overcome the Gulls.
The Hosts
Kings Langley FC are one of Hertfordshire's oldest football clubs, having been formed in 1886, with village doctor Frederick Fisher serving as the club's first chairman. They were founder members of the West Herts League in 1891/92 and enjoyed early success by winning the St Mary's Cup in front of 3,500 spectators at Watford Recreation Ground. The club has experienced plenty of highs and lows over its long history, including a brief folding in 1930 before being reformed later that year. Following several decades in Hertfordshire football, Kings Langley eventually established themselves at a higher level, including spells in the Southern League. The club returned to the Spartan South Midlands Premier Division for the 2025/26 season and are celebrating their 140th anniversary in 2026.
