The road to Colchester begins.

Canvey Island will kick off their Essex Senior Cup defence with a home fixture against Benfleet in the Third Round.

This marks the Gulls’ first step in this season’s historic competition, as they look to build momentum and make a statement early. Benfleet are no strangers to the island or Park Lane themselves, having spent a number of years groundsharing with us before they moved back to their Woodside Park home in 2024.

They currently play in the Essex Senior League having progressed up the pyramid in recent years from the Essex Olympian League. Numerous players have played for both Canvey and Benfleet over the years including Sonny Hartman, Flo Gislette and Mason Shave. All of whom currently play for Benfleet.

Benfleet entered the competition at the First Round stage and has already seen off White Ensign and Basildon United so they will be hoping they can channel the grit and flair that defined those performances into another cup victory. The fixture promises intensity, ambition, and the kind of drama only the Essex Senior Cup can deliver.
