Match Report This weeks game saw a top the the league clash with Canvey taking on the unbeaten Benfleet Youth Tigers. The Canvey boys were fired-up and put the pressure on Benfleet straight away. After only five minutes a well taken corner from Jordan Bloss, saw the ball fly accross the goal mouth and firmly planted in the back of the net, by an excellent shot from Archie Blackburn. Encouraged by this, Canvey continued pushing forward with Levi Causton and James Harrison taking on the Benfleet boys with skilful footwork. Jordan Bloss kept the centre of midfield under control with strong tackling and accurate passing. Any breaks Benfleet had were swiftly stopped in their tracks by strong defensive play from Jared Blake and Harry Neal. As Canvey strived for another goal James Harrison took on two players with ease and scored a superb goal with his left foot. Finlay Dobson pressurised Benfleet’s defence and knocked the ball to Archie Blackburn. His shot deflected out and Levi Causton saw his chance to hit the back of the net with a well taken goal. However, Benfleet came out the second half with a new lease of life and within 5 minutes scored a goal. Their pressure continued and Canvey keeper, Jack Sims was forced to pull off a couple of fantastic saves. Harry Neal stood out in defence as he made crucial tackles and clearances which frustrated the Benfleet attack. The Canvey boys continued pushing forward with Finlay and Archie using their speed and skill to lose the defence. Canvey were unlucky not to score again with several shots from Jordan and Levi going slightly wide. The second half seemed to last forever with several injuries from a well fought game by both sides. The final whistle saw the score 3-1 to Canvey, which still leaves them sitting at the top of the league table, with an unblemished record. The boys fought really hard this week, James, Jordan and Levi covering most of the pitch. Archie and Finlay out-witting their defence, Harry and Jared holding up our defence making vital, well timed tackles. And of course Jack Sims, mastering his goal area and directing his defence. Man of the Match trophy was given to Harry Neal who received it from lastweeks winner Levi Causton. Well done boys, keep up the good work! |
