Match Report
Canvey Island U8's had a bright start and battled well. Our passing game continued to improve and a real team spirit is developing. We never looked like losing this and there could have been so many more goals.
Another great away performance!!
Canvey started of kicking up hill on this sloping pitch, but made light work of the disadvantage. Our passing was superior from the start and some consistent pressure paid off with numerous corners being won at the start, Elmwood held firm at the back however.
James Heys work down the wing left the opposition helpless, he could have had a hatrick in the first 10 minutes!! This was pretty much the story for the first 15 minutes with countless chances being created and Harry Bates a virtual spectator in the Canvey Goal.
On 15 minutes another Goal mouth scramble in the opposition half led to Canvey’s first, the ball fell to Thomas Diss, (always in the right place at the right time it seems!!) who calmly slotted the ball home from close range.
1 - 0 Canvey!!!!!
This finally stirred Elmwood into some action and a rare foray into Canvey’s half led to a free kick on the edge of the box, the shot cut though both teams of players and a sharp save to Harry’s right stopped an equaliser. The resulting corner was defended with ease and Canvey Broke away once more, again James Heys found himself bearing down on goal, only to be denied by some good defending.
Half Time.
Despite the advantage of the slope, Canvey Started slowly and it was Elmwood’s turn to exert the early pressure, with Canvey’s keeper called into action twice in as many minutes at the start of the second half. After five minutes of early pressure, Canvey’s passing game began to tell once more and some decisive passing saw Harry Harrison through on goal, although his shot was well held by their keeper.
Eight minutes into the second half, the game was over, Canvey passing game became too much for Elmwood and two goals in two minutes snuffed out any chance of a come back. The first Move saw the ball played through to Thomas Diss to the right of goal he unselfishly played this square to Harry Harrison in front of Goal who finished calmly.
2 - 0 Canvey!!!!!
The Second Goal was equally good to watch with some slick passing leaving Henry free in the box, but still with some work to do, his finish was excellent and left the keeper no chance…
3 - 0 Canvey!!!!!
With the game well won, Canvey continued searching for more goals and pushed forward as one, this left gaps at the back which were twice exploited by the Elmwood forwards, some desperate defending at the back was mopped up by Harry Bates who twice made good saves to snuff out the danger. Finally though Elmwood found themselves one on one with the Keeper and made no mistake in claiming a consolation with only two minutes to go.
3 - 1 Canvey!!!!!
The last two minutes saw more pressure from Canvey nearly get its reward with another goal from Henry, but this was disallowed by the ref, who adjusted a strong tackle on the keeper to be a fowl.
All in all, this was an excellent performance by the lads and one we never looked like losing
