Match Report A fantastic performance from the lads in this one sided encounter, although missing some key players they looked sharp from the off and passed the other team off the pitch…The score sheet suggests a one player game, but some fantastic interplay up front put some of these goals on a plate for Henry today, who to be fair had the match of his life. Another great away performance!! Canvey Started confidently and passed the ball well, the early pressure was all Canvey who looked like the home team from the start. The passing was great and although we started with the disadvantage of kicking uphill in this first half, the ball barely left their third!! In their only attack of the first ten minutes a ball was played into space and needed to be cleared, a powerful kick from our keeper hit young Reece in the face and rebounded into Harry face as well, both players were hurt, but Reece taking the full force had to come off for 10 minutes before returning. Brave lad!! The pressure finally told in the 8th minute and Henry broke away on the right, his shot from outside the area was a blinder and left the goalkeeper helpless. A great strike to open his account… 1 – 0 Canvey. Within minutes, Essex Royals broke back down the left a great pass in from the corner flag found a runner in the box, a well worked move and it left our defence standing. 1 – 1 Canvey continued to press and found ourselves in the box once more, some great individual play from Thomas Diss turned two off their defenders inside out, a simple pass to Henry in front of the box from 3 yards out gave him the simplest goal he will get this season. 2 – 1 Canvey. On 15 Minutes after continued Canvey pressure, Henry broke away from a defensive position inside his own half, Essex Royals defence backed off and Henry needed no more invitation, he surged to the edge of the box and buried the ball in the net, a superb strike and the best off the three so far for his hatrick… 3 – 1 Canvey. Essex Royals did finally respond and some pressure in the last few minutes led to a free kick in a dangerous area, their player of the match took the free kick and this should have served good warning for what came later. It was a well taken free kick with power, but Harry Bates was quickly down to his right and pushed the ball out for a corner, which Canvey defended well. Half Time. Essex Royals started brightly and Harry was forced into an early save, which was taken well. Brandon, now in midfield, battled well and made some great tackles. James Heys was as lively as ever and won a corner on Canvey’s first attack of the half after a good pass from Brandon. The pressure continued and on 25 minutes, Henry went one better than his last goal, again from well outside the box, the defence backed off and gave Henry time to line up his shot, what this lacked in power it made up for in precision, it was inch perfect in the top right hand corner, hitting both crossbar and upright as it went in, you won’t see a better goal this season. 4 – 1 Canvey. Essex Royals, not to be denied attacked again and Harry was forced into another save. From the goal kick, Canvey attacked once more with some great play down the right from James Heys, his shot was well saved from the keeper, but the rebound fell to none other than Henry, who put the ball away for his fifth!! 5 – 1 Canvey. Canvey continued to push forward and James Heys in particular kept finding space on the right, although his shots both failed to find the target on this occasion. Essex Royals who battled bravely throughout broke away in the 32nd minute and won a free kick just outside the box, A fantastically struck free kick, which everybody knew was coming, beet Harry, who got his hands to it and perhaps should have done better!! 5 – 2 Canvey. From here on out, it was all Canvey and the sixth was always coming!! In the 36th minute Byron found himself free on the left edge of the box, he held the ball well and played a lovely ball into the centre, Henry was their to meet it and his shot went in off the keeper, Henry’s goal but a great assist from Byron. 6 – 2 Canvey. This was a great team effort and although Henry was there to finish them all, this was a great team effort with some excellent passing and interplay. A very mature team performance. Great work Lads!!! TEAM: 1 – Harry Bates – A good solid game, always alert when needed and good safe hands. 2 – Reece McDonough – Great game at the back, very brave into the tackle and recovered well from an early injury. 5 – Harry Herbert – Had another good game at the back, some crucial clearances. 6 – Brandon Fryer – Played an important part in this match, this was his best match of the season so far. 7 - Henry Sims (c) – Worked tirelessly up and down the pitch, simply couldn’t stop scoring – Man of the match. 8 – James Heys – Another great game on the right, did everything but score. 9 – Thomas Diss – A good game up front, always made himself available and excellent work for the second goal. 10 – Byron Brackett – A good game in the centre some very unselfish play to make the sixth. Referee: A very fair referee, very sharp and never missed a thing…great game ref!!!
