Island Boys U8's Lions 0 - 1 Canvey Island U8's Lions Match Report

Match Report

Canvey Island U8's had a bright start and dominated throughout this match. Our passing game was really the difference between the two sides, although they defended well throughout. We never looked like losing this game but it was decided by a very contentious goal indeed! Did the ball cross the line?? The Ref thought so and that was enough for us!!

Another great away performance!!

Canvey Started confidently and passed the ball well, the break away was by Island Boys though, but a weak shot led to a comfortable save by Harry Bates in goal, who otherwise had very little to do.

The rest of the half was dominated by our own lads, with consistent pressure leading to countless chances for Thomas, Henry, Harry Herbert and Harry Harrison. The pick of them was from Henry Sims in the 5th Minute when his shot rebounded off the right hand upright.

An injury to an Island Boys player in the 10th minute from a corner stopped play, Canvey restarted the match and sportingly passed the ball back to their Keeper, well done lads, unfortunately five minutes later after another stoppage the gesture was not reciprocated and Canvey had to remain alert to snuff out the attack.

Half Time.

The Second half started as lively of the first and Canvey pushed forward from the start, some good passing led to Harry Herbert receiving the ball down the right, he surged into the box and tried his luck from a tight angle, the keeper initially stopped the shot, but appeared to spill the ball and knock it behind his own line, the referee seemed in little doubt and blew for a goal, protests from the opposition seemed to sway his thinking, but after some discussion the goal was given… much to the relief of our lads.

1-0 Canvey!!!!

Island Boys responded positively for the next five minutes and good work from Reece and Adam reduced the attack to no more than a couple of shots on goal from distance, none of them troubling our keeper.

On 31 Minutes our passing game began to tell once more and Harry Harrison’s shot from the edge of the box just sailed wide of the right hand post…Then on 33 Minutes the best move of the game led to a good chance for Harry Harrison after some neat interplay in the opposition box with James Heys, the shot was deflected for a corner.

In the final minutes of the game both sides had few chances with their defences in control, Both Reece and Adam made some excellent clearances into the opposition half and were rarely troubled.

On the Final whistle Canvey took away the three points, which on the balance of play was well deserved.

Great work Lads!!!

TEAM:

1 – Harry Bates – A good solid game, not match to do, but alert when needed.

2 – Reece McDonough – Another Solid performance at the Back as always.

3 – Adam Pickin – Had a solid game at the back when he came on at half time.

4 – Harry Harrison – Very lively in midfield, his tackling was strong and he never stopped tracking back to help defence.

5 – Harry Herbert – Fantastic game today, always alert and looking for the ball, well deserved goal and man of the match.

7 - Henry Sims (c) – Always strong in the tackle and a real threat up front, unlucky not to score.

8 – James Heys – Continues to develop down the right and really quick…..gave their left back real problems today.

9 – Thomas Diss– Good work up front, for once not on the score sheet.

10 – Byron Brackett  - Came on late for Harry Herbert  but fitted in well and worked hard.
