Canvey Island U11's 2 - 1 Thorpe Bay Rangers U11's B Match Report

Match Report

Canvey chalked up their third league win on the spin against their cup conquerers. The scoreline however does not do justice to the performance given by the Islanders. It was probably their best display of passing football since the transition to eleven a side in the summer.

The first half started with Canvey on the front foot straight away. The only thing missing from their game was that killer pass onto the ever dangerous Ronnie Baker. The first real chance came when Baker ran on to throughball but was thwarted by the Thorpe Bay keeper.

At the other end, Thorpe Bay beat Ross Fullman, from close range, their effort was ruled out by the referee.

Despite Canvey’s terittorial advantage, the first half finished goalless.

Canvey opened the scoring ten minutes into the second half, a cross from the right hand side from Jack Cook was converted by Baker from close range.

The brick wall that is the Canvey defence was breached five minutes later when Thorpe Bay equalised.

The game seemed to be heading for a draw when a snap shot from Baker from edge of the box sqeezed into the bottom corner, to give Canvey a richly deserved lead. It was his eleventh goal of the season.

They comfortably held on to record their fourth league win of the season and keep the heat on their fellow promotion challengers.
