Canvey moved above their opponents into fourth place in the league with a hard earned but in the end, well deserved victory at a cold but thankfully dry Jones Memorial Ground.

The first half saw Canvey enjoy the lions share of possession, but thanks mainly to an extremely effective offside trap, they were restricted to a couple of half chances from Ronny Baker and Jackson Williams. Leigh also found opportunities few and far between. The Canvey defence (the meanest in the league) were more than a match for anything that Leigh could muster in the form of attacking opportunities.

The second half began with Canvey kicking uphill and against the wind. The Leigh offside trap continued to frustrate the Canvey attack until ten minutes into the half, a Leigh goal kick went straight to Brad Manhood, his pass to Sam Jordan was met with the sweetest of strikes from edge of the area into the top corner. One nil Canvey.

The Canvey defence with Brad Manhood playing just ahead were dominant and restricted Leigh to half chances at best, the one time it was breached, Ross Fullman saved bravely at the feet of a Leigh attacker to preserve his third clean sheet from six league games.

Canvey put the game to bed with ten minutes to go, a pass from midfield for once beat the Leigh offside trap, and Jordan ran through to slot the ball under the Leigh keeper for his and Canvey's second.

A Leigh header hit the bar with two minutes to go, but apart from that, Canvey safely played out the final few minutes to record a third league win from six games.

A special mention must go to the Canvey defence of Aaron Lynes, Jake Biggs, Josh Gardiner and Jack Lee,  who as a unit were most impressive and of course to Sam Jordan for two well taken goals. But all in all this was an extremely professional team performance against a time who were previously fourth in the league.
