Match Report
Great Wakering Rovers brushed aside Canvey’s second string with ease at a stormy evening at Burroughs Park. The hosts were simply too quick for Ian Lowes’ young team, and scored five second half goals to finish the contest in style.
Rovers took the lead after 6 minutes through Ty Benjamin. An attack from the left wing saw a good cross pumped into the box which was not cleared effectively, allowing Benjamin to slot past Ryan Jones. The rest of the half was a fairly even contest, with Canvey coping well with the Wakering pressure and managing to exert some themselves. Wakering did hit the bar on 36 minutes, though Canvey could easily have equalised 4 minutes later from a corner.
However, the second half was a completely one sided affair, with the first of five goals coming after only one minute of the restart. Canvey had given the ball away cheaply in midfield, and followed that up with some poor defending to allow James Foy a free header which he duly converted. 3 minutes later Foy double his tally and took Rovers to a dominant 3-0 lead.
As the half drew on, Wakering were in the ascendancy for long period. James Foy completed a well earnt hattrick, with Paul Horwood and Antony Okopoji also netting to complete the scoring.
So, more work required for Ian Lowes in order to allow Canvey to bounce back from this early setback in the season.
