Canvey Island will look to progress to the next Qualifying Round of the Emirates FA Cup this Saturday, as they host National League South side Braintree Town at the Moviestarr Stadium.

The Opposition

The Iron have made a steady start to the season in the Vanarama National League South, picking up 2 wins and 4 draws in their first 9 games of a long campaign. Their last outing saw them pick up a point at home to Farnborough at home last weekend.
Despite their more humble start to proceedings this year though, last season saw them prove to be a force to reckoned with, as they earned a place in the playoffs, where they exited at the Quarter Final stage after defeat away at Worthing.

Being a higher ranked opposition, they enter the competition at this stage. Manager Angelo Harrop will know he has a raft of talent to call upon this campaign, with exciting young players like Jack Sims and Aaron Blair amongst others, along with former Canvey loanee Tom Blackwell - a member of our successful FA Cup squad from 2020, that reached the 2nd Rouns Proper of the competition.

This will be our 21st competitive meeting with Braintree Town in all competitions. Whilst we met in pre-season this year, our last proper meeting on the pitch came in the Essex Senior Cup 3rd Round back in 2018, with the then National League Iron running out 4-0 winners on the night.

The Gulls
Canvey meanwhile, endured another frustrating afternoon in league last weekend, going down 2-1 at home to Whitehawk.

Conor Hubble put the Gulls ahead from the spot, but they were pegged back by two well worked goals from the in-form visitors, with Canvey squandering a number of chances to take something from the game - mainly thanks to the sharp reactions of visiting keeper Mitch Walker.

They'll hope to call upon the kind of form they displayed in the last round - an impressive 5-1 demolition of Lowestoft Town
