Canvey Island begin part one of a double header against Lewes on Saturday, travelling to the Dripping Pan Stadium for this Isthmian Premier match.

Our Opponents

The Rooks have enjoyed a solid season so far, with the club nestled in 10th place in the table at the time of writing, just four points from 5th place and a coveted playoff spot. They're also competing their first ever season in Europe, with the club invited to play in this year's Fenix Trophy - a meeting of fan owned amateur sides from across the continent. They secured qualification from their group on Tuesday as they beat KSK Beveren of Belgium.

Their league form lately, like the Gulls, has been inconsistent however, with the club taking just six points from their last six league games. Three of those points came in a valuable win on the road last Saturday however, with the Rooks defeating fellow playoff chasers Horsham 3-1 away from home.

Many would have tipped the Rooks for a playoff berth at the start of the season, particularly on the strength of their squad. Manager Tony Russell can call upon a wealth of experience in players like Ronnie Vint and Chris Whelpdale, whilst also relying on exciting up-and-coming talents like Kalvin Lumbombo-Kalala and Ryan Gondoh to turn the tide of a gane against even the league's top competitors.

This is our first meeting with the Rooks this season due to cup and weather related postponements having scuppered the home leg at the Moviestarr Stadium. With Lewes playing another Fenix Trophy match this month, the game has bow been scheduled to Tuesday 5th March.
In our last visit to the Dripping Pan back in March 2023, a brace from Evans Kouassi saw the Gulls take all three points home from Sussex.

The Gulls
Canvey meanwhile, halted a run of bad results at home on Saturday after earning a point in a goalless draw against mid-table Carshalton Athletic. It was a game mostly remembered for two fantastic goalkeeping performances and a late, late winner being controversially ruled out in injury time.

The Gulls will be looking to improve on their form away from home before the season ends, with the side having not picked up three points on the road since last November.

Yellow Army, we thank you for your continued support as we enter the penultimate month of the season. Brad, Sammy and the squad will be looking to finish a challenging campaign on a high and with more personnel coming back from injury, they'll want your support home and away.

A trip down to East Sussex represents one of the more sought after away days of the season and we know the Yellow Army will travel in good numbers and good voice once more.
