Canvey Island play their last match of a whirlwind 2023 on Saturday, as they make the long trip to Bognor Regis Town in the Isthmian League Premier.

Our Opponents

The Rocks, like ourselves, have had a mixed first half to their season, with the club in 12th place in the league at the time of writing - a point and a place above us.

Whilst they have currently fallen short of playoff expectations thus far, they've done enough currently to stave off a relegation battle, with the club having not lost a game since later November - though 3 of their last 4 have been draws, with the Rocks conceding in all these games bar their last, which was a convincing 2-0 win at home to Horsham on Boxing Day.

What they do have in them is goals however, having not failed to score since the start of September. That is primarily down to a potent strike force, with players like Dan Gifford, Lucas Pattenden and Isaac Olaniyan all chipping in up front.

This is the first return fixture of the season, with our previous encounter in late August ending in a 3-1 victory to the visitors - with Evans Kouassi getting Canvey's goal on the day. The same player got Canvey's winner in our last trip to the MKM Arena - a 1-0 win back in March.

The Gulls
Canvey meanwhile, will be looking to end 2023 with a better afternoon than recent results have suggested, as they move into a busy and possibly crucial January.

Though they showed signs of improvement last time out, it wasn't enough to grant them any Christmas joy away at league leaders Hornchurch, as they fell to a 2-0 loss.

One positive of the game though was the awaited debut of Sam Higgins from the bench, whose goalscoring prowess could prove vital for Canvey in the 2nd half of the season.
