Canvey Island fell to a 4-0 defeat at home to Braintree Town as they continued their pre season preparations.
The Gulls found it hard to get going against a higher ranked opposition, who played some neat football and punished Canvey for their errors.
They took the lead after just 8 minutes, with the referee adjuding Elliott Johnson to have brought down Nnamdi Nwachuku in the area. The striker stepped up and converted to put the visitors ahead.
The Gulls went close to equalising through Kouassi and Salmon but they couldn't find the net before their opponents.
A touch of fortune for the Iron brought them a second goal as debutant George Quantrell put a ball into the area from the right. It caught on the wind and deceived Sam Jackson at the back post, gifting the visitors another goal.
The game was pretty much wrapped up by half time with Nwachuku nabbing a third as he broke into the area.
Brad Wellmen subbed in some promising trialists in the second half but luck was ultimately not with the Gulls as they again had a penalty awarded against them, with one of the visitors Trialists firing home for the fourth.
The Gulls will have to try again on Friday evening, as they make the trip to Isthmian League North side Heybridge Swifts.
