As the sunshine swept over South East Essex, it was a day to remember for Canvey Island FC yesterday.
Chris Bourne's FC Gulls won the Andy Ward Group H Cup, defeating FC Sparta in a thrilling 4-3 victory. The Gulls' scorers were Craig Durusell (pen), Billy Peck, Ed Stores, and Mark Tate.
At Park Lane later in the day, Kings Field Casuals defeated Canvey Island Royal British Legion 4-3 thanks to a last minute goal by Graham Linney. Canvey supporter Fran Bloss also scored only 32 seconds after coming on as a sub, with Brian Jeeves also netting. At the other end, Canvey FC kit man Mark Chittock scored a 25-yard rocket for the Legion. A picture of the teams can be found here.
Afterwards, Venables FC beat a team of former Venables players 8-2, with another Canvey fan, Gary Dover, netting a first half hattrick .

Brimsdown Rovers 2 - 1 Canvey Island aet
A lucklustre performance from Canvey Island saw Brimsdown Rovers capture the Thameside Trophy 2-1 after extra time last night. Leon Gordon had headed Canvey ahead early in the first half, but the hosts equalised in the second half and scored the winner late into the second period of extra time. It was obvious throughout that The Gulls recent playoff exploits had taken their toll, with some players playing the equivelant of 4 matches in 8 days. Despite the defeat, Canvey can finish the season with their heads firmly held high.
Tonight we travel to Brimsdown Rovers for the final of the Thameside Trophy. This is our last match of the season, and the players will be determined to end on a high by adding the Silver Galleon Trophy to the Playoff Final Cup. Kick off is at 7.45pm.
Our Essex Thameside Trophy Final against Brimsdown Rovers has been arranged for this coming Tuesday 6th May, kick off at 7.45pm. Unfortunately, due to factors beyond our control, this will mean that a Supporters' Coach cannot be organised in time for the match on such short notice.
Instead, anybody who would either like a lift to the match or has any spare seats should email gleneckett@canveyislandfc.com so that you can be put in touch with the relevant Canvey fans.

THE GULLS ARE GOING UP!!
10-man Canvey Island produced a Herculean display of courage to defeat Redbridge 5-4 in penalties to win promotion to the Ryman Premier League yesterday. Redbridge had taken the lead through Leon Antoine after 30 minutes, and the game seemed to be slipping away from Canvey. However, centre back Colin Wall headed The Gulls level with 10 minutes to go to force extra time. Wall was then sent off for a second bookable offence, and as neither side could add to the scoring, penalty kicks would decide the match. Redbridge missed their second kick, and Nicky Rugg smashed home the winning penalty after his first attempt was saved only for the kick to be retaken with the keeper off of his line.
At 3pm tomorrow, Canvey will being taking part in one of the biggest games in the clubs recent history. The Gulls are away to Redbridge in the Ryman League Division 1 North Playoff Final, the winners earning promotion to the Premier Division.
All 3 Supporters coaches have sold out, ensuring a massive turnout from The Yellow Army.
The Ryman North Play Off Final will be played this Saturday at the Oakside Stadium against Redbridge. Kick off at 3:00pm.

In front of hundereds of travelling Canvey fans, after leading twice in normal time, Leon Gordon's glancing header in the final moments of extra time sealed the islanders place in the Ryman North play off final against Redbridge.
After Canvey took the lead on two occasions, AFC Sudbury fought their way back into the game and took the match into extra time. Both teams battled hard on a boggy surface in pooring rain, but it was the visitors who put up the best display to send the invading Canvey fans into celebrations that will last long into the night after booking a place in the final.
Final score: AFC Sudbury 2 - 3 Canvey Island (after extra time)
Hundreds of Canvey Supporters are expected to travel to AFC Sudbury tonight for this evening's Ryman League Division 1 North Playoff Semi-Final. Richard Halle and Kevin Dobinson are doubts with injuries picked up on Saturday.
There is still some room left on the second Supporters Coach which leaves Park Lane at 5pm. Call Glen Eckett on 07747 778 266 to reserve your place now.
Canvey produced a magnificent display in front of 613 fans to seal their place in their playoffs. After a goalless first half in which Canvey hit the bar, Canvey took the lead on 49 minutes through a header from Man of The Match Leon Gordon. The win was secured when Ian Luck flicked the ball on 74 minutes to send the crowd into a carnival atmosphere.

Save The Hillians!
Burgess Hill Town FC's future is in serious doubt, after the Mid Sussex District Council served an eviction notice to potentially build houses on the pitch. The 125 year old club is one of the most successful sides in Sussex, and currently run 6 sides including a ladies team.
Burgess Hill have provided so much for so many people over the years and we must provide the opportunity for future generations to play our national game at grass roots level at Leyland Park.
"The Hillians" have until 13th October to leave Leylands Park, so please sign this petition as a way of protesting to the MSDC against the shutting down of Leyland's Park:
Match photographs from yesterday's 3-0 victory away to Maldon Town by Paul Chesterton are now online. These photos, as well as pictures from Tuesday's 4-2 win against Ilford in the Thameside Trophy, can be found in our online gallery.
Canvey produced a tremendous second half performance this afternoon to defeat Maldon Town 3-0 away. After a goalless first half, Nicky Rugg nodded The Gulls infront against his former club from a Leon Gordon cross. Gabriel Fanibuyan doubled the advantage as the 90th minute approached, and Clydie Roberts added another in injury time to set up a grandstand finish the league season at home to Enfield Town next Saturday.
Tomorrow we travel to Maldon Town FC in our penultimate Ryman League Division 1 North fixture of the season, kick off at 3pm. Canvey will be without goalkeeper James Russell who has been recalled from his loan by Stevenage Borough due to injuries in their squad. However The Gulls, top of the league's away performance table, will be determined to claim a victory that will move us a massive step towards confirming a playoff place.
The Supporters Coach leaves Park Lane at 1.30pm, with our clubhouse open from 12pm. There are only a small number of tickets remaining, so anybody who hasn't got one but wants to go should call the clubhouse on 01268 682 991 soon after 12pm to reserve yours.
In the evening, the clubhouse will be open from 8pm for a fun filled Karaoke Party! Come along and enjoy the night, though you may want to bring some ear plugs!
Canvey won through to The Essex Thameside Trophy Final this evening, defeating Ilford 4-2 at Park Lane. After Chris Bourne had scored direct from a corner, Richard Halle doubled the lead with a great free kick before Ilford pulled one back before half time. Nicky Rugg put The Gulls 3-1 up in the second half, and a sublime finish from Ian Luck put the result beyond doubt. Ilford did grab a goal in the dying moments, but the game was over by this point.
This evening we host Ilford in the Sem-Finals of The Essex Thameside Trophy. Manager John Batch will use the game to give match fitness to some players who have not featured as much of late, though it will still be a strong line up and definitely a match we want to win. Admission has been reduced to £5 Adults/£3 Concessions/£1 Kids, with kick off at 7.45pm. Season Tickets are valid for this fixture.

Canvey Island 1 - 0 Wivenhoe Town
Canvey completed the double over Wivenhoe Town this afternoon, winning 1-0 after dominating the match from start to finish. With Ex-Canvey keeper Richard McKinney making three fine saves, our goal eventually came just before half time from a Colin Wall header. The Gulls kept putting the pressure on the visitors in the second half, though couldn't add to the scoreline.
Tomorrow we are at home to Wivenhoe Town in another massive match for our promotion hopes, kick off at 3pm. A win for The Gulls could see us climb as high as 4th if other results go our way. Earlier in the season Canvey triumphed 2-0 at Broad Lane, our goals coming from Ian Luck and Danny Curran.

AFC Sudbury 0 - 2 Canvey Island
Second half goals from Steve Corbell and Ian Luck saw Canvey claim a fantastic victory away at title chasing AFC Sudbury this evening. After a tight first half in which Nicky Rigg hit the post, The Gulls took the lead with 15 minutes to go from a Steve Corbell free kick. As the hosts flooded forward, substitute Ian Luck smashed home the second to send Canvey on the brink of the playoffs.
