01/09/10 Canvey To Support Non League Day Initiative

To try an increase attendances at Non-League grounds up and down the country, Saturday 4th September has been designated as National Non-League Day.

With England playing Bulgaria on the Friday night and the Premiership and Championship cancelled for that weekend, thousands of football fans across the land will be short of a match to attend.

On that date we entertain Tooting & Mitcham United at The Brockwell Stadium, and anyone holding a current season ticket for one of the 92 Premiership or Football League clubs will be entitled to free entry.

Club spokesman Chris Sutton said "The club are very pleased to support this excellent initiative which we hope will encourage fans of professional clubs in the area to discover or rediscover the joys of Non-League football."

31/08/10 Billericay Town 1 - 0 Canvey Island

Billericay Report

A goal from Danny Charge 12 minutes from time was enough for Billericay Town to earn a 1-0 win at The New Lodge yesterday. The hosts started the better side, but Canvey came back to finish the stronger in the first half and continued to create chances in the second. However, The Gulls' rarely tested Ashlee Jones in the Billericay goal thanks to some inaccurate finishing, and The Blues took their chance as Charge pounced on a loose ball to score.

29/08/10 Canvey Island 1 - 1 Carshalton Athletic

Carshalton

An excellent footballing perofrmance from Canvey could only earn The Gulls a point at The Brockwell Stadium yesterday. Despite throwing the proverbial kitchen sink at Carshalton in the second half, a mixture of some near misses, good goalkeeping, and the woodwork ensured that the match ended as a draw.

Carshalton took the lead on 13 minutes as Paul Johnson hit a free kick through a weak Canvey defensive wall and into the bottom corner of the net. However, a nice passing move by Canvey was finished off by Danny Heale on 28 minutes after he converted James Rowe's lay off.

Elsewhere, AFC Sudbury have rejoined the Division 1 North after a couple of seasons in the Zamaretto League. Joining them will be newly formed Maldon & Tiptree FC, a long rumoured merger between Maldon Town and Tiptree United which has finally taken place.
