Bury Town 1 - 0 Canvey Island
Canvey lost by the only goal of the game 10 minutes from time in a close encounter at The Ram Meadow. The Gulls had plenty of possession throughout the match, though struggled to force former-Canvey keeper Dean Greygoose to make a save. With the game seemingly heading for a draw, a terrific cross was headed home by Sam Reed on 80 minutes to seal victory for the hosts.
Tomorrow Canvey make the trip to Bury Town in what will be a hugely important match for both team's playoff ambitions. A great run of form has seen Bury climb to 8th in the table, 1 point behind ourselves having played a game more. So far this season they have defeated the likes of Dartford, AFC Sudbury, Ware and ourselves, so this promises to be a hard fought match.
Supporters Coach Tickets for our upcoming matches away to Bury Town on Saturday and AFC Sudbury on Tuesday are on sale tonight in the clubhouse. Tickets are priced at £10 Adults and £5 Kids. The coach on Saturday leaves Park Lane at 11.30am, with Tuesday's trip departing at 4.30pm.

Witham Town 1 - 5 Canvey Island
Canvey thrashed Witham Town 5-1 at Spa Road this evening to continue their push for the playoffs. Clydie Roberts opened the scoring with a long range effort, with Jay Curran adding two more before Witham scored a penalty before half time. Curran completed his second hattrick in two matches with a header, with Nicky Rugg rounding off an impressive victory.
This evening we travel to Witham Town for our replayed fixture that was abandoned earlier in the season. The two sides met earlier in the month, the match finishing 1-1. There is no Supporters' Coach for this match, though directions to their Spa Road ground can be found here:
Canvey got back to winning ways yesterday with an impressive 4-1 victory away to Arlesey Town. The Gulls took the lead just before the break through Jay Curran. He then went on to add his and Canvey's 2nd and 3rd in the second half, with substitute Ian Luck grabbing the 4th. Lee Tekell scored a consolation free kick for the hosts, but the points were safe by then.
This morning, Arlesey Town's pitch passed an inspection meaning that the match will go ahead. The Supporters' Coach leaves Park Lane at 11.30am, with tickets available on board.
A pitch inspection has been organised for 9.30am tomorrow morning to see whether our match away to Arlesey Town can be played. A lot of water has fallen over the passed few days, meaning that there is a possibility the match may be called off. As soon as the outcome of the inspection is known, details will be put on this site.

Canvey Island 0 - 1 Dartford
A goal in the 24th minute from prolific goalscorer Brendon Cass earned Dartford a 1-0 victory at Park Lane this afternoon. In what was a tight game of few clear cut chances, Clydie Roberts had Canvey's best effort which was well saved by Tony Kessell. However, The Gulls could not breach The Darts defence and continued our barron run in front of goal recently.
After a snow free night, Park Lane is looking in good shape ahead of today's match against Dartford. Quite a pit of ice has settled around the ground and on the pitch, though with the sun beaming down as it is and the groundsmen and supporters helping to break up large areas, this will not be a problem.
As a result, we will not require a large turnout of helpers as prepared for. Thank you for your support all the same.
The clubhouse will be open from 11am, with kick off at 1pm

Building Up To Dartford
Tomorrow we stage our biggest match of the season so far, at home to league leaders Dartford. This is obviously a big opportunity for CIFC to benefit from a large attendance, and we hope to see as many Canvey and Dartford fans at Park Lane as possible.
However, it would be very frustrating if the weather we are currently experiencing should cause us any problems in getting the match on. The groundsmen are more than confident that the pitch will be fine, but it is the ground itself that they may need your help with. Should snow settle overnight, we would need supporters to come along from 8am onwards with a shovel to clear the snow so that the dangers of people slipping on the terraces is down to a minimum.
Therefore, if you can spare some time should it be required, please check this website at 7.45am for an update as to the help that is needed.
Also, we would like to wish Dartford Club Chairman Dave Skinner a speedy recovery after he suffered a heart attack after their 2-1 home win against Ware yesterday.
21/03/08
Waltham Abbey 0 - 0 Canvey Island
For the second match in succession, Canvey could only pick up a point against a team from the bottom half of the league table. Canvey had the better of the first half, Steve Corbell and Jay Curran both having good chances. However, in the second half the host had some good opportunities to take the lead, though in the end both sides had to settle for the draw.
Tickets for the Supporters Coach to Waltham Abbey tomorrow are on sale this evening in the clubhouse. The coach will leave Park Lane at 1.15pm, with our clubhouse open from 12pm from some pre match refreshments. Tickets are priced at £10 Adults and £5 Kids. UPDATE: The Supporters Coach has sold out for today's match.
16/03/08
Canvey Island 1 - 1 Witham Town
Canvey had to settle for a point yesterday at home to Witham Town, the match finishing 1-1. The Gulls took the lead after 14 minutes through Jay Curran. However, Cody McDonald levelled the scores on 64 minutes, and try as they might, Canvey could not find the winner.
Today we take on Witham Town in the league at Park Lane, kick off at 3pm. Nicky Rugg will miss out through injury, with Jay Curran looking to return.
Also, at 7.10pm, Canvey Island FC will feature as part of BBC2's The Culture Show. This is part of the programme's section on the day top indie band British Sea Power visited the club and played a gig at The Monico in February. The programme will be screened in the clubhouse.
14/03/08
Pyschic Evening In Clubhouse This Evening
There will be a Pyschic Evening tonight at Park Lane in the clubhouse. Readings will start from 7.30pm with a top medium, and cost £20 for a personal sitting. Last time we held one of these events it was quite well attended, so we would definitely advise getting along early.
11/03/08
Canvey Island 2 - 2 Southend Manor (Canvey Win 5-4 On Pens)
The crowd at Park Lane got their money's worth this evening as Canvey triumphed 5-4 on penalties against Southend Manor in The Essex Thameside Trophy Quarter Final. Kieran English had given The Gulls a first half lead, though Martin Santon-Hope levelled on the break in the second half. Clydie Roberts restored the advantage 2 minutes later, though a similar goal by Santon-Hope tied the scores once again. 30 minutes of Extra Time could not seperate the sides, and after the penalty shootout entered sudden death, Stuart Batch scored what was to be the winning kick.
Thanks to the hard work of groundsmen Mick Morgan and "Millwall" Dave Leigh, tonight's match has been given the all clear to go ahead. The match, kicking off at 7.45pm, will be used to give a few of the players returning from injury a game. Dave Kreyling, Jon Stuart, Jay Curran are all expected to feature, with reserve star Kieran English also in contention. Admission has been reduced to £5 Adults/£3 Concessions, and season tickets are valid for the match.
11/03/08
Pitch For Manor Match To Be Monitored
Tonight's home Essex Thameside Trophy match against Southend Manor will need to under go a pitch inspection today to confirm whether it can be played. The pitch experienced a lot of water after yesterdays weather conditions, and there was a lot of lying water last night. However, a day of sunshine and wind, along with the hard work of our groundstaff, will hopefully mean that the game can go ahead. Please check this website from 5.30pm onwards for clarification.
09/03/08
Canvey Island 0 - 1 AFC Sudbury
Canvey's undefeated run came to an end at Park Lane yesterday thanks to a last minute wonder goal from substitute Darren Bethell. In what was an even match, the visitors won the match in the dying moments a Bethell unleased a 30 yard rocket that beat Mel Capleton. Earlier in the match, Sudbury may consider themselves somewhat fortunate to still have had 11 men on the pitch as David Head fouled Leon Gordon as the last defender, though the referee only produced a yellow card.
Tomorrow we host 2nd placed AFC Sudbury in a crucial Ryman League Division 1 North match, kick off at 3pm. AFC Sudbury are one of the few teams who actually boast a longer undefeated run, stretching to an impressive 14 matches. Three points could prove vital to either sides promotion aspirations, so an exciting match in front of a large crowd is anticipated.
07/03/08
Supporters Take On AFC Sudbury Counterparts
Tomorrow morning, Canvey Island Supporters Team will play AFC Sudbury's Supporters Team in a match at Methane, Haven Road, Canvey. The match kicks off at 10.30am, and anybody who would like to go along and watch are more than welcome.

02/03/08
Ilford 1 - 3 Canvey Island
In extremely windy conditions, Canvey came away from The Crickefield Stadium with all three points with a brace from Gabriel Fanibuyan and a header from Nicky Rugg. After an uneventful first half, Canvey took the lead as Gab chipped the keeper from outside of the area. However, Ilford hit back straight away before Fanibuyan recaptured the lead shortly after. Leon Gordon then put in a marvellous right wing cross which Nicky Rugg gladly headed home.
A friendly match between Canvey Island U16's and Canvey Island Supporters finished as a 4-3 win for the Supporters. The U16's, who compete in the Southend & District Junior Football League Premier Division, stormed to a 3-1 lead in the first half, though were pegged back to 3-3 before half time. With the wind playing havoc to both teams, a goal by Gary Dover from a tight angle sealed the win in the second half.
Canvey manager John Batch has been quick to recognise that anything but a fully committed performance today away at Ilford could make this a potentially tricky match. Ilford, currently bottom of the league, have lost their last 4 games. The Supporters Coach leaves Park Lane at 12.30pm, with our bar open from 11.30am.
Coach tickets to Saturday's away fixture at Ilford can be purchased in the clubhouse this evening. The coach will leave Park Lane at 12.30pm, with our clubhouse open from 11.30am. Tickets are priced at £10 Adults and £5 Children.
26/02/08
Brentwood Town 0 - 2 Canvey Island
Goals either side of half time from Leon Gordon and Gabriel Fanibuyan sealed another vital three points in the race for the playoffs away to Brentwood Town this evening. Gordon opened the scoring on 17 minutes, with The Gulls dominating possession for long periods. The game was won on 71 minutes, a pinpoint cross from Steve Corbell being turned home by Gabriel Fanibuyan.
This evening we travel to Brentwood Town, kick off at 7.45pm. Brentwood are having a great first season at this level following their promotion from The Essex Senior League, and find themselves in 7th place in the league, just below ourselves. They come into this match on the back of a 1-1 home draw against Aveley at the weekend.
On Saturday Canvey Island Supporters Team will be playing Canvey Island U16's (SDJ) at Methane, Haven Road, Canvey. Kick off is at 10am, in time for anybody wishing to go to Ilford on the Supporters Coach which leaves Park Lane at 12.30pm. Any regular players or Canvey Supporters who would like to be considered for selection should contact Gary Dover on 07779 272 030 asap.

Chris & Clydie Makes Their Mark
Chris Bourne and Clydie Roberts earned their full international caps for Guyana on over the passed few days. On Friday they both came off of the bench to help The Golden Jaguars to a 2-1 win against Cuba. Then earlier today, Chris Bourne started and Clydie Roberts came on as a sub in a 0-0 draw, again against the 88th World Ranked Cubans.
Today's U18 match at Park Lane against Eton Manor has been postponed due to the visitors being unable to field a side. However, our clubhouse will be open from 1pm onwards to show the Chelsea v Tottenham Hotspur Carling Cup Final.
23/02/08
Canvey Island 1 - 0 Great Wakering Rovers
Despite having Richard Halle sent off for violent conduct after only 9 minutes, Canvey produced an impressive battling performance to defeat Great Wakering Rovers 1-0 at Park Lane this afternoon. Steve Corbell's 34th minute free kick seperated the sides, with The Gulls defending like demons in the last 10 minutes to claim a vital 3 points.
Today we host our friends from Great Wakering Rovers in the Ryman League Division 1 North, kick off at 3pm. Clydie Roberts and Chris Bourne are away on International duty, and Danny Curran will also miss out with an ankle injury. Colin Wall is also doubtful with a damaged rib. However, Richard Halle is expected to feature after recovering from an injury picked up against Ware.
20/02/08
Roberts Joins Bourne For World Cup Warm Up
Canvey Midfielder Clydie Roberts has been called up to the Guyana squad to face Cuba in their upcoming International Friendly match. We wish Clydie and Chris Bourne all the very best for the match, and hope they can emulate the achievements of Danny Francis and Ryan Edgar by getting a decent result.
16/02/08
Wingate & Finchley 2 - 3 Canvey Island
Canvey extended their unbeaten league run to 8 matches with a 3-2 away win at Wingate & Finchley. The Gulls took the lead through Craig Davidson in the first half, though Wingate soon equalised from a free kick. However, a double strike by Jay Curran just before half time put Canvey 3-1 up at the interval. The hosts pulled one back in the second half, but Canvey stayed strong for an important 3 points.
Goalkeeper James Russell's loan from Stevenage Borough has been extended to 24th March 2008. Russell has been in excellent form for the Gulls, keeping 3 clean sheets and only conceding 2 goals in the 5 matches he has played. James has stated that he is really happy to be playing football for Canvey, and is enjoying the club's good form of late.
15/02/08
Wingate & Finchley Up Next
Tomorrow we travel to Wingate & Finchley in our latest Ryman League fixture, kick off at 3pm. 09/02/08
Redbridge 0 - 0 Canvey Island
Canvey played out only their second 0-0 draw of the season away to Redbridge this afternoon. Both teams had chances to grab a goal, though a mixture of solid defending and poor finishing ensured the scoreline remained blank.
Today we travel to the Oakside Stadium to take on fellow playoff contenders Redbridge, kick off at 3pm. Kevin Dobinson and Craig Davidson are both in the frame to start, with Jon Stuart to be given a fitness test. Before the game, Canvey's Supporters Coach is leaving Park Lane at 12pm and dropping off at The Bulldog pub around the corner from the ground. Some seats are still available.
Photos from our recent matches against Waltham Forest and Concord Rangers by Paul Chesterton are now online. Also, photos from recent CIFC matches - Canvey Island U8's Lions v Essex Royals U8's Lions & Canvey Island U9's Lions v Hawkwell Athletic U9's Tigers - have also been uploaded.
An incredible gig at The Monico last night by British Sea Power will stay long in the memory of BSP fans and Canvey locals alike. A tremendous concert by the band, wearing Canvey Island FC shirts throughout, was capped off by the appearance of Dr Feelgood legend Wilko Johnson as an encore. Earlier in the evening, the band were put through their footballing paces by the Canvey squad whilst being filmed by The BBC for The Culture Show to be aired in the near future.
For those of you not going to the British Sea Power gig tonight, coach tickets are available in the clubhouse for Saturday's visit to Redbridge. The coach is leaving Park Lane at 12pm, and will be going to The Bulldog pub before the match. Tickets are priced at £10 Adults/£5Kids.

Concord Rangers 1 - 2 Canvey Island
Canvey came out on top in the Island Derby this evening, defeating Concord Rangers 2-1 at Thames Road. The Gulls took the lead in the first half through defender Andrew West, though Concord equalised with 10 minutes to go. The hosts then put Canvey under a lot of pressure, James Russell ensuring the scores remained level on a couple of occasions. However, with the game looking as though it was heading to extra time, reserve player Kieran English popped up with a goal in his first start for the senior team to win the match.
Tonight we travel to Concord Rangers in The Essex Thameside Trophy, kick off at 7.45pm. Canvey will be fielding a team of first team squad players and reserves, with Concord likely to do the same with big matches coming up for both clubs. However, regardless of the teams on the night, this will be the first time in many years the two sides have met and should be a great occasion for football on the Island. Concord Rangers ground can be found at the end of Thames Road, off of Thorney Bay Road, Canvey.
03/02/08
Reserves Update
Canvey Reserves picked up an impressive 3 points away to Clapton on Saturday, Canvey's goal coming from Danny Woodcock.
Also, Wednesday's Reserve fixture at home to Concord Rangers has been postponed to be rearranged on a future date.

Waltham Forest @ Home
Canvey won their third match in a row thanks to a goal from Leon Gordon 6 minutes from time. However, they were made to work very hard by a determined Waltham Forest side. The visitors took the lead on 31 minutes through Jeremiah Nkrumah's header, though Nicky Rugg equalised from close range on the hour. With the match seemingly heading for a draw, Gordon slotted home to give Canvey the points.
Today we play host to Waltham Forest, kick off at 3.00pm. Waltham Forest are currently 19th in the league, and come into this match following a 1-0 home defeat to Great Wakering Rovers. James Russell should be okay to take his place in goal, with Gabriel Fanibuyan also looking likely to feature.
02/02/08

Potters Bar Town 0 - 3 Canvey Island
For the second consecutive match, Canvey came back from an away trip with the three points after a 3-0 victory. Canvey dominated the game for long spells, and eventually took the lead in the first half through a Steve Corbell free kick. Corbell turned provider for the next goal, his free kick finding the head of substitute Danny Curran to put The Gulls two up at the break. The second half was riddled by stoppages, though a brilliant pass from Leon Gordon allowed Jay Curran to smash home Canvey's third.
This evening we travel to Potters Bar Town in our latest Ryman League fixture, kick off at 7.45 pm. Potters Bar are currently 18th in the league table, and come into this match on the back of a 1-0 home defeat to Great Wakering Rovers. However, away wins for The Scholars against the likes of Ware and Brentwood Town earlier in the season show that this will be a tricky game for Canvey.
Our fixtures away to AFC Sudbury and Brentwood Town that were called off due to the bad weather have now been rearranged. Our match against Brentwood Town will now be played on Tuesday 26th February 2008, kick off at 7.45pm. Then, on Tuesday 8th April 2008, we travel to AFC Sudbury, kick off again at 7.45pm.

Curry Night
Thank you to everybody who came along for the Curry Night yesterday. 40 Canvey fans helped to fill the Anika Restaurant to capacity, raising over £160 for the club in the process. Despite the restaurants apparent lack of organisation for such a large crowd on a Sunday night, we hope that everybody had an enjoyable evening. We will be in negotiations with other Indian Restaurants on Canvey to hold another night out in a couple of months time.
26/01/08
Ware 0 - 3 Canvey Island
Canvey produced a magnificent performance to defeat Ware 3-0 at Wodson Park. Jon Stuart gave The Gulls the lead with a header in the first half. However, Ware then missed two penalty kicks in the secondd half, missing the target on both occasions. Clydie Roberts then doubled the score to cap a fine individual game, and Leon Gordon sealed the win as the match drew to a close.
Canvey travel to Hertfordshire to face Ware this afternoon, kick off at 3pm. Colin Wall is still suspended, though James Russell is set to make his debut for the club in goal. Richard Halle is in line to make his comeback after rejoining the club, and Danny Curran may also feature after injury.

He resigned for The Gulls following Saturday's match, and goes straight into the squad for Tuesday's visit to AFC Sudbury.

Edgware Photos Online
Photos from yesterday's home match against Edgware Town by David Sargant are now online. These photos, along with photos from the rest of the season, can be found in our gallery.
A dubiously disallowed goal 4 minutes from time denied Canvey a deserved victory at Park Lane today. Canvey took the lead on 12 minutes as Gabriel Fanibuyan's cross was converted by Jay Curran. However, Canvey keeper Mel Capleton was then injured before conceding the equaliser from Greg Ngoyi on the half hour. Capleton then had to come off, and with no keeper on the bench, defender Andrew West went in goal for The Gulls. Edgware had chances to take the lead, but some poor finishing ensured the scores stayed level. Canvey kept attacking, and thought they had won the match when Nicky Rugg headed home with minutes to go, though for some reason the referee disallowed the goal.
Thanks to our hard working groundsmen, the pitch in Park Lane is in excellent condition for today's match against Edgware Town. There is no lying water on the playing surface, though the middle of the pitch will be a bit sticky. In team news, Ricky Wiseman misses out following a car accident, and Colin Wall starts his three game suspension. However, Leon Gordon will return to the squad for what should be a terrific match.
17/01/08
Chris Bourne Receives International Call Up
Canvey's Chris Bourne has been called up to play for the Guyana International Team to face Cuba. If all goes well, he will then hope to make the squad for the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers. An interview with Chris on the Voice of Guyana website can be found here:
Midfielder Matt Reade has left the club to join our Essex neighbours Great Wakering Rovers. Matt rejoined Canvey after a spell at Wingate & Finchley, though has struggled to get a run in the first team since his return. We wish Matt all the best for the future, and thank him for him for this time he has spent at Park Lane.
